Are there any requirements to use Click Fraud Detective™?
The only requirements are that a small JavaScript code needs to be inserted on the landing pages to be tracked and that the URLs used for each pay per click ad be modified to contain the Click Fraud Detective™ tracking codes.
What do I need in order to start auditing my PPC traffic for click fraud?
There are only two steps you will need to complete to begin monitoring your PPC campaigns:
- Place at least one Click Fraud Detective™ tracking variable in the URL for the landing page in each of your pay per click ads that you wish to track. The current supported tags are:
source = represents the PPC network that the ad is on
vcad = the ad being tracked
Note: You can assign any value to the source or vcad variables, however there should never be any spaces in the source or vcad variables. To separate words use an underscore ( _ ).
Examples:
http:\\www.yoursite.com?source=google
http:\\www.yoursite.com/page.php?source=overture&vcad=blue_widgets
http:\\www.yoursite.com/page.asp?source=kanoodle&vcad=blue_widgets&other_value_here=somevalue
- Copy and past the following JavaScript code on your landing page(s) between the <body></body> tags:
Where do I log in to view my click fraud monitoring and run reports?
http://app.ClickFraudDetective.com
What information can be viewed from each visit?
Currently the following is information is provided:
- IP address (including dynamic IP addresses)
- IP block owner
- Geographic location
- User agent
- Query used
- PPC ad that was clicked on
- Keywords
- Date
- Time
What determines the possibility of click fraud?
In short, you do.
Rather than specifying for you what might be fraud and what might not be, we allow you to set and adjust your own variables as you see fit in monitoring for fraud. You have the ability to specify the number of clicks as well as a date range to either lessen or increase your monitoring thresholds.
Am I notified when a visit becomes flagged as being possibly fraudulent?
Yes, you are notified in real time by email.
Can I track visitors who use dynamic IP addresses or use proxy servers such as AOL?
Yes, users with dynamic IP addresses are tracked automatically and special reporting is in place to display all associated IP address. In addition, IP addresses for proxy servers, like AOL, are marked individually as such in your reporting.
Can I track multiple domains?
Yes, however you will need to use a different password for each one.
Why does Click Fraud Detective™ report different click amounts than the ad networks?
It is possible for a user to click on your ad an use the back arrow before they reach your site to record a PPC hit or there could have been a technical problem with the ad network. It is also possible that whatever monitoring the PPC networks do could not be counting repetitive visits. Unfortunately, the PPC networks will not divulge how or if they are doing this, which is why you should be sending your own reports in. Click Fraud Detective™ tracks each pay per click visit to your landing pages and may report pay per click hit numbers different than the ad networks. If you see this to a high degree you should talk with your ad network rep.

:: Did you know?
A chief executive of an Internet marketing company enjoys clicking on his rivals' text ads on Google and Yahoo because his competitor must pay as much as $15 each time he does it. Eventually, such phantom clicks can add up and drain a rival's budget. "It's an entertainment," said the executive, who asked to keep his name and company anonymous. "Why do you run into a store without dropping a quarter in the meter? You know it's wrong, but you do it."
